Woman fatally shot on Detroit’s west side; gunfire exchanged during date meetup

Detroit police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old woman early Sunday and a double shootout in which two men were in critical condition.

At around noon in the parking lot of a lounge near Joy Road and Fielding Street, police said a black Kia pulled up and an inmate started shooting and hit the woman.

The woman was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

At around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, police said a 57-year-old man walked onto the 9300 block of Woodside and thought he was going to hang out with a woman he met on a dating website.

When the man arrived, police said he was hit by an 18-year-old man who tried to rob him at gunpoint. The 57-year-old, who has a hidden pistol license, took out his gun and shot the 18-year-old, the police said.

Both men were beaten several times and taken to the hospital, where they were in critical condition.

The police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call the Department’s Homicide Squad at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
