Woman poured gasoline on victim sitting on couch before setting her ablaze and watching her burn to death: Cops

After reportedly dousing a person she knew with gasoline while she was sitting on a couch and lighting her on fire, causing fatal injuries, a lady in Virginia who was previously free on bond for assaulting someone with a pipe is now facing murder charges, according to the police.

Police say 28-year-old Savannah Adams killed Wythe County resident Tiffany Dunford at her Max Meadows home. Adams is accused of setting Dunford on fire while she was sitting on a couch in an outbuilding on the property on Sunday, November 17.

The burnt and scorched remnants of Dunford’s couch are visible in footage taken by the local NBC affiliate, WSLS. That day, someone reported the event to the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, and when deputies arrived, they discovered Dunford barely alive.

According to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office over the weekend, deputies found the woman with extensive burns covering the majority of her body. To receive treatment for her injuries, the woman was flown to a specialized medical institution.

Adams allegedly fled the scene in a silver 2004 Dodge Neon that the sheriff’s office identified and posted on Facebook, along with a picture of Adams. Adams is acquainted with Dunford through friends and relatives. She was arrested early on Monday and accused with felonious assault and attempted second-degree murder. Police upgraded Adams’ accusations to first degree murder after Dunford passed away from her wounds later that day.

“I don’t care whether she was right or wrong, I still loved her,” Nancy Reyna, Dunford’s cousin, told local Fox affiliate WFXR. “Anyone who knew Tiffany knew that she could light up a room, and she didn’t deserve to be burned.” Tiffany is too kind of a person, and my family and I are devastated by this.

According to WSLS, police detectives say that Dunford and Adams were acquaintances who knew one another through friends and family. Facebook posts from Dunford’s family members further support this claim. Both of them have photos of themselves with their children on the internet and identify as mothers.

Early on Monday, a number of Dunford-related individuals posted on social media that Adams had apparently hacked one of her family members’ Facebook pages and was chatting with people there.

The family member’s relationship to Dunford is unclear.

Adams has a long criminal history, according to the Bristol Herald Courier. He was scheduled to stand trial in Pulaski County on Monday for a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property that was filed on July 8. She was also free on bond and slated for trial on December 5 for an alleged 2023 attack on a lady using a metal pipe.

According to the Herald Courier, the victim allegedly remembered telling a witness in court records that Savannah was attempting to murder him.

Adams was accused of impeding justice in that case, as well as assault and trespassing, the latter of which she had already been found guilty of twice. Adams is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond at the moment.
