In Texas, a 20-year-old lady and her boyfriend of the same age are accused of robbing and killing a guy who had let them live in his condominium. They also allegedly drugged his drink and repeatedly stabbed him.
Authorities said that Haley Barber and Leo Moore were arrested Thursday and charged with one count of capital murder by fear, threat, or other felony and one count of avoiding arrest or detention in connection with the death of 53-year-old Johnny Mac Ross Jr.
Moore was also accused of stealing more than $2,500 worth of property.
Officers responded to a complaint of a deceased person at a residence in the 4500 block of Chaha Road, approximately 17 miles east of Dallas, at around 1 a.m. on Nov. 11, 2024, according to a news release from the Garland Police Department.
First responders reported finding an adult male who was later identified as Ross upon arrival. He seemed to have sustained several stab wounds and was declared dead at the site. Additionally, officers on the scene reported seeing evidence of foul play within the house.
According to the results of an initial investigation, Ross was stabbed several times with a knife.
According to the announcement, investigators also found that a 2001 Mercedes, one of the victim’s cars, had been stolen from the home. Garland officers found the stolen car on Miller Road close to LBJ Freeway at around 1:00 p.m. on November 11. Haley Barber and Leo Moore, the accused, escaped when authorities tried to halt the car, led them in a short car chase, then stopped and ran away on foot.
A short time later, both suspects were captured.
According to the police, they have evidence that Barber and Moore knew Ross and were involved in his demise.

Barber allegedly sold an automobile to one of her friends that she said belonged to her grandfather but was actually owned by Ross, according to the report. That friend claimed the house smelled bad and went with Barber to Ross’ place to acquire a spare key for the car. Barber allegedly revealed the friend Ross’s wrapped body in a rear bedroom after he inquired about Barber’s grandfather.
After that, Barber allegedly admitted to the friend that she and Moore had stabbed Ross after drugging him. According to the story, the friend then informed his mother and dialed the police.
According to reports, cops discovered blood on the couches, a Bowie knife, and bloody shoes and towels that had been stored in the closet within the property. Ross’s body was discovered wrapped in a rug, sheets, and trash bags.
The two suspects were seen entering and exiting the condo several times during the period police believe Ross was slain, which is reportedly a few days before his body was found, according to a neighbor’s doorbell camera.
Because Barber and Moore were operating Ross’ Mercedes, authorities were able to capture them.
Barber allegedly acknowledged in a police interview that she and Moore intended to steal cars and money from Ross.
Moore allegedly acknowledged that he stabbed Ross in the neck after waiting until he was dozing off on the couch. Ross was still alive when the two returned to the residence after allegedly being gone for eight to ten hours.
According to reports, Barber then gave Moore the order to kill Ross so she wouldn’t have to see him suffer. Moore allegedly acknowledged repeatedly stabbing Ross in the upper back after that.
The suspects are presently being jailed on a $1,000,000 bail at the Dallas County Jail.
