16-Year-Old Arrested for First-Degree Murder in Mesa Trailer Park Shooting

PHOENIX – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, abandonment of a dead body, and tampering with evidence following a deadly shooting at a Mesa trailer park, police said Monday.

The arrest came on Friday, nearly a week after the fatal incident occurred on Dec. 18. Authorities responded to the trailer park near McKellips Road and College Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they learned that the victim, a man, had been shot multiple times while sitting in the driver’s seat of a green truck.

Witnesses reported seeing a male suspect shoot at the victim before driving off in the truck. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned about eight miles away, near Val Vista Drive and McDowell Road. Police found the victim’s body and what is believed to be the murder weapon at the scene.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released due to his age, was arrested without incident at an apartment building nine days after the crime. He is facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Mesa Police are continuing their investigation, and they encourage anyone with additional information to contact the department at 480-644-2211.
