Method to determine the most dangerous cities in Ohio
The FBI releases two crime datasets on cities in Ohio every year. First, there will be a preliminary dataset that includes only the largest cities in Ohio. This will be followed by a more detailed release at the end of the year. We analyzed the data from the 2022 Crime In The United States Report for Ohio.
What criteria did we use? Take a look:
- Violent Crimes Per Capita
- Property Crimes Per Capita
To ensure a fair comparison, we only looked at cities in Ohio with a population of over 5,000. We were left with a total of 264 cities in Ohio. We ranked each city from 1 to 264 based on two criteria. A #1 ranking indicates the highest level of danger for that specific criteria.
Afterwards, we combined the two rankings to create a single “Dangerous Index”. After careful evaluation, we have determined the level of danger in each city in Ohio and ranked them accordingly on the “Dangerous Index”. The city with the lowest index, Canton, is considered the most dangerous. If there were any ties, they were awarded to the smaller city.
