Teen Shot in Face While Searching for Homecoming Photo Spot in Colorado

A 17-year-old is accused of being shot in the face by a Colorado municipal council member while the adolescent was seeking a location for homecoming pictures.

The unidentified teen was shot on Tuesday as he and a companion were at a lakefront house in Conifer, about 35 miles southwest of Denver, according to Brent Metz, 38.

According to a news statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the two friends had attempted to communicate with the homeowner by jumping the property’s fence and had gone back to their car to leave a note since they thought the homeowner was not present.

The homeowner reported the teens for trespassing and phoned the police as well as her boyfriend—who is not Metz.

Metz, according to an arrest document obtained by a news outlet, approached the car with his gun drawn and pointed at the teenagers. After hearing the shot, the companion told the police that Metz said, “Oh (expletive), my gun just went off.”

The affidavit states that the adolescent who was shot said, “I am going to die” after being shot. When Metz tried to help, the uninjured youngster pulled him away and demanded to know why he had shot his friend.

Metz is a municipal council member from a tiny town.

Metz appears to be a council member for the city of Mountain View. The end of his term is set for 2027. Email correspondence addressed to Metz’s municipal council address was not immediately returned.

The city is situated around 35 miles northeast of the shooting site.

First-degree assault, felonious menacing, unlawful firearm discharge, and reckless endangerment were the allegations against Metz that led to his booking.

On September 17, Metz is expected to appear in court. An attempt to reach a lawyer identified in court records by phone was unsuccessful on Thursday night.
