Data Predicts This is California's safest large county

According to data from the California Department of Justice, a county in Southern California has been ranked as the safest large county in the state.

A recent report on the state of the region in 2023 has analyzed crime data from the Department of Justice. The report examined the number of crimes reported per 1,000 residents in the state’s 16 largest counties, as well as the crime rate trends over time.

In 2022, Ventura County experienced its lowest crime rate in history, making it the safest large county. San Diego County has secured the second spot, with Orange County claiming the third position.

“This doesn’t happen by accident,” stated Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko. “Ventura is a unique location.” Local law enforcement agencies have developed strong working relationships, which we take pride in. Our community partnerships are highly valued.

In 2022, the county’s violent crime rate stood at slightly less than two reported crimes per 1,000 residents, which is 30% lower than Orange County’s rate.

In 2022, Ventura County experienced a total of 13.51 reported property crimes per 1,000 residents. Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, and Ojai have been identified as cities in the county with the lowest overall crime rates.
