AOC and Bernie Sanders Defend Biden's Decision to Withhold Military Aid for Israel

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont supported President Joe Biden’s choice to temporarily stop providing military assistance to Israel.

Earlier this week, the Biden administration stopped the delivery of 1,800 bombs weighing about 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms) and 1,700 bombs weighing 500 pounds (227 kilograms). During an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Biden admitted that the United States would not give weapons to Israel if it attacked Rafah. Many Palestinian civilians have sought refuge in Rafah during Israel’s attack on Gaza.

Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary for George W. Bush, was among the conservatives who criticized the move.

“Biden is not thinking clearly.” “If he does this, he is helping Hamas to survive and win,” Mr. Fleischer posted on Twitter. “I prefer Donald Trump’s mean tweets over something else.” None of them is as bad as Biden.

However, Ocasio-Cortez, who is in favor of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and has repeatedly criticized Israel’s approach, stood up for Biden.

“Biden has not lost his ability to think clearly.” She said he is supporting the US. There are 1.3 million people living in Rafah. You don’t have to kill them to go after Hamas. Biden said that the red line for the US was Rafah. “Allowing Bibi, or anyone else, to cross it would make us weaker and the world less safe.”

Furthermore, Sanders expressed his criticism of a tweet made by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s national security minister, in which he claimed that Biden had affection for Hamas.

“This offensive tweet is from Israel’s extremist National Security Minister, who was found guilty by an Israeli court of promoting racism and supporting terrorism,” Sanders, who is Jewish and lived in Israel during his youth, wrote. “The government is fighting against all the Palestinian people.” We cannot support or be involved in Ben-Gvir’s war.

Both Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez voted against a law that would have given military support to Israel. Representative Jamaal Bowman from New York criticized his Democratic primary opponent George Latimier for disagreeing with Biden’s actions.

“My opponent is not supporting President Biden,” he said. “Let me be clear, George Latimer is supporting his Republican megadonors instead of President Biden.”
