Blade Hidden In Cane Woman To Kill Man On Main Line Sentenced

A Philadelphia woman who was found guilty of third-degree murder in the 2023 stabbing death of someone in Ardmore will spend at least 20 years in jail. Montgomery County’s DA’s office said that Renee DiPietro, 70, of Philadelphia, was given a jail sentence of 20 to 40 years on Monday. A 16-inch blade wrapped in a cane was used by DiPeitro to kill Michael Sides, 31, of Ardmore on June 10, 2023, in Ardmore. Around 1:30 a.m., the accident happened at the corner of Cricket Avenue and Cricket Terrace in Ardmore. As police arrived, they saw a guy, later identified as Sides, lying on the ground, not moving and bleeding from his upper torso.

Sides was taken to Lankenau Medical Center, but at 2:28 a.m., they said he was dead. An probe found that there had been a fight earlier that night at a bar nearby. The DA’s office says that during the fight, one of Sides’ friends was “sucker punched” by a guy later identified as Jason DiPietro.

The DA’s office said that Sides was heard saying that he was going to “seek out” Jason DiPietro for biting his friend after the event. A neighborhood business had cameras that caught Sides’ death. Officials from the DA’s office say that Jason DiPietro could be seen trying to get into the back seat of a white Nissan car that his parents, Michael and Renee DiPietro, were in. The DA’s office said Sides stopped him from getting into the car.

They started fighting, and Sides, who wasn’t carrying a gun, was hurt. The DA’s office says video shows Renee DiPietro getting out of the front passenger side of the car, walking up to her son and Sides, and entering the fight.

The DA’s office said Renee DiPietro was seen stabbing Sides with a long-edged weapon. The weapon turned out to be a 16-inch blade wrapped in a cane. The DA’s office says that Renne DiPietro was seen hitting Sides again while he was on the ground after he had hit him.

The DA’s office said that the DiPietros get back into their Nissan and drive away from the scene.

Officials from the DA’s office say that video security showed the car’s license plate was bent up to hide it so that the person could not be identified later. Their actions were not helpful to Sides and they did not call 911, the DA’s office said. The autopsy on Sides’ body showed that he died of a single stab wound to the chest. He was killed. In August 2023, Renee DiPietro turned herself in to face charges.
