Outside the Redford Township Town Hall, a group of people are camped out to use cannabis. According to Redford Township, the line opened on Tuesday, September 10, the evening that the Township authorized the first marijuana licenses to be issued.
Redford Township Clerk Gary Christie expressed his astonishment at witnessing the line, saying, “I was surprised to see it. I was anticipating seeing them out here in mid-October.”
Right outside Christie’s office window are the aspiring marijuana vendors. He has been observing them for more than a week, and if they wish to maintain their status and file an application for a marijuana license with the township, they must stay there until October 3.
On October 3, at 9:00 a.m., the applications will be accepted in order of receipt.
You lose your spot if you leave the line for any reason without finding a replacement, including simply to use the restroom.
Christie said, “Well, I think a couple of reasons, I think there’s a limited supply, and they think they’re going to make a lot of money on this.” in response to the question of why he believes individuals are so eager to register for the licenses.
Businesses that the Cannabis Regulatory Agency reports are doing extremely well. In August, marijuana sales in Michigan broke all previous records, with the sector selling over $295.4 million worth of the drug.

The number of marijuana licenses that will be issued is unlimited. There are restrictions on where dispensaries can be constructed, though, which will reduce the total number.
For example, they are not allowed to be 1,000 feet from a public park, 1,000 feet from a school, or 2,500 feet from another dispensary.
