EL PASO, Texas — Christmas afternoon turned into a busy day for the El Paso Fire Department’s (EPFD) Combined Search and Rescue (ComSAR) team as they responded to two separate incidents involving injured hikers on the Franklin Mountains.
The first call came in at 11:36 a.m. on December 25, reporting a hiker who had fallen along the Aztec Cave Trail in the Tom Mays Unit of Franklin Mountains State Park. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide assistance.
Not long after, at 12:13 p.m., a second call reported another injured hiker. This incident occurred on Smuggler’s Pass, located near the eastern part of Transmountain Road.
In both cases, ComSAR deployed their skilled team to navigate the rugged terrain and safely rescue the injured hikers. Despite the challenges posed by the mountainous landscape, the team successfully transported both individuals to safety.
According to fire officials, both hikers sustained only minor injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for further evaluation.
