DDN – A disagreement between a landlord and a tenant in Dearborn Heights resulted in the shooting. The 79-year-old renter, who requested anonymity, claimed his landlord shot him in the knee on Friday (January 3).
The event took place in the driveway of a residence near Beech Daly and Joy Road in Dearborn Heights.
“He pulled out his gun and pointed it at me, and he said, ‘I’ll bury you right here,'” the tenant’s son told Local 4.
According to the son, the landlord shot his father instead.
According to the family, they had been calling the landlord to get many things fixed in the residence, including the water heater and the power. The family claimed the landlord was irritated and wanted them to leave despite paying three months’ rent.
According to the son, the landlord showed up to the residence armed on Friday morning.
“I hear this banging on the door,” the tenant’s kid stated. “I think he was banging on the door with his gun because it was very loud, or he had some medal thing that he was banging with.”

They argued after the son claimed to have answered the door. “He got in my face, and he head-butted me with his cap, and then I head-butted him back, and we got loud,” stated the kid’s father.
The incident, including the shooting, was caught on a neighbor’s front porch camera.
“I heard a bang while he was cursing.” I hear a shot. “I look at my father, and he was hit in the knee,” the son stated. The father was taken to the hospital and treated for the gunshot wound. He is currently on crutches and is expected to heal physically.
“We don’t have any weapons in the house,” the son said. “We don’t have anything to defend ourselves because we don’t expect people to attack us like that.”
The landlord was detained, but it’s unclear what charges, if any, he’ll face.
