Summary of research on the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Pennsylvania. We used Saturday Night Science to study the cities in Pennsylvania that have the highest percentage of households with same-sex couples in 2024. The information is sourced from the American Community Survey 2013-2018 vintage. This survey provides details on gender and household status. Unfortunately, the Census no longer provides information at the city level. Therefore, this report is based on the most recent available data.

About 0.91% of people living in Pennsylvania are estimated to identify as gay. That means there are a total of 48,192 households with gay individuals in The Keystone State. Method to determine the best cities for same-sex households in Pennsylvania for 2024

To determine the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in Pennsylvania, we analyzed data from Saturday Night Science and the 2013-2018 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census. We examined:

  • Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners

We only analyzed non-CDPs that have more than 1,000 households. We assigned a ranking from 1 to 378 to each place based on the percentage of unmarried, same-sex partner households. The city with the highest percentage of these households is considered the most gay.

In the end, it turned out to be the place with the highest percentage of gay households, at 3.71%. This report is our tenth edition of ranking the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Pennsylvania.
