Method to calculate the murder capitals of Rhode Island

We wanted to base our assessment of the most dangerous cities in a state on more than just speculation and opinion, so we looked at surveys and public polls. Instead, we used Saturday Night Science to compare the specific data from the FBI’s most recent year of reporting. We specifically examined the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, which provides a yearly summary of the number of murders in each city.

We examined all the cities in Rhode Island for which we had access to FBI data in the most recent FBI Crime In The United States report. We have 6 cities left to rank.

We used the number of murders per person as the basis for ranking. According to the most recent data, Charlestown has the highest number of murders per person. We have ranked the places in Rhode Island with the highest number of murders per person for the tenth time. We have made changes to the list for the year 2024.
