We analyzed the rates of violent and property crimes per person in all locations with more than 5,000 residents. We studied a total of 35 cities in Rhode Island. These are the findings from our analysis:

Method to Determine the Most Dangerous Cities in Rhode Island

The FBI releases two crime datasets on cities in Rhode Island every year. First, there will be a preliminary dataset that includes only the largest cities in Rhode Island. Then, at the end of the year, a more detailed release of the dataset will be made available.

We analyzed the 2022 Crime In The United States Report for Rhode Island to gather information.

To ensure a fair comparison, we only looked at cities in Rhode Island with a population of over 5,000. We were left with 35 cities in Rhode Island.

We ranked each city from 1 to 35 based on two criteria. A #1 ranking means the city is considered the most dangerous for that specific criteria. Afterwards, we combined the two rankings to create a single “Dangerous Index”.

Finally, we have ranked every city in Rhode Island based on the “Dangerous Index”. The city with the lowest index, Woonsocket, is considered the most dangerous. If there were any ties, they were awarded to the smaller city.
