Man Faces Judge After Brutal Attack on 81-Year-Old German Tourist in Detroit

An old German visitor is reportedly being sucker-punched in downtown Detroit and is currently struggling for his life.

A 30-year-old man was detained by police after he allegedly attacked the tourist out of the blue. At approximately ten in the morning, the claimed attack took place near Campus Martius in the center of downtown Detroit.

Both the specifics of the supposed attack and Lawrence Gilcrest’s 30-year-old arrest are startling.

“You informed the officer quote “I knocked his a** out,” the judge stated.

Gilcrest is currently charged with serious assault, and the assistant prosecutor feels that he ought to remain in detention pending his trial.

“This person is clearly a danger to society,” Diana Lynch, Wayne County prosecutor stated. “This was an unprovoked attack on a stranger from another country where he came up to him and cold-cocked him.”

An 81-year-old guy who is hospitalized and struggling for his life was the victim.

“The victim remains unconscious and is unresponsive,” Lynch stated. “And we are waiting for updates hourly. We are not certain the victim with survive this incident.”

That German guy who was in Detroit. was reportedly aboard a Great Lakes cruise that stopped in Detroit. The claimed attack took place in the center of downtown on Woodward.

“The suspect, simply walked up to him and immediately and violently hit him,” Lynch stated. “The probability of conviction and sentencing is strong given the entire assault took place on video camera.”

The lawyer for Gilcrest presents a different image of his client, a man with no prior criminal activity.

Citing ongoing court proceedings involving public intoxication and court-ordered mental health care, the judge set bond at $50,000 cash. The prosecution disagreed with the decision.

Gilchrist is instructed not to speak with the victim or visit downtown Detroit until the matter is resolved if he posts bond.
