MIAMI, Flo. (DDN) – The Florida Highway Patrol is providing new information with Action News Jax about a fatal wrong-way crash on I-295. It was reported yesterday that it had blocked traffic around 103rd Street on the Westside for more than six hours.
Overnight, we received a fresh report from FHP stating that a man stole a green pickup truck and drove south on I-295 north before colliding with a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider died after being flung off and hit by the white vehicle driving behind him.
Finn Carlin of Action News Jax spoke with a woman who requested anonymity and claims to have seen the rider hit by the car.
“He just started flying in the air,” she said, becoming emotional, “and he ended up underneath the tire of the white car. I literally saw their last seconds of life, it was so heartbreaking.”
The woman claims she was on her way to an appointment in the Mandarin neighborhood when her GPS sent her onto I-295 toward 103rd Street, which is not the route she regularly travels. She claims she noticed the green truck driving the wrong way, which led to one of her most unpleasant recent recollections.
“It’s just awful, I need to talk to somebody because I am not okay,” she said.
The FHP says the driver of the green pickup truck stole it from somewhere along 103rd Street with a gun. After the incident, troopers say he fled the scene and attempted to steal three more cars.

“He jumped over the steel guardrail on the interstate and attempted to carjack another victim and at that time was unsuccessful, then attempted another vehicle and was unsuccessful,” said Master Sergeant Dylan Bryan with the Florida Highway Patrol, “it was alleged he did batter or assault one of the victims as well.”
The FHP is still seeking for the driver, who was last seen traveling on the back of a semi-trailer truck. He has not been identified, but troopers believe he has short hair and is wearing a black shirt and black shoes.
Anyone with information on the crash or the driver is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
