Method to find the murder capitals of Washington
We wanted to use something other than speculation and opinion to determine the most dangerous cities in a state, so we looked at surveys and public polls. Instead, we used Saturday Night Science to compare the actual numbers from the FBI’s most recent report. We examined the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, which provides a yearly summary of the number of murders in each city.
We examined all the cities in Washington state for which we had FBI data from the most recent FBI Crime In The United States report. We were left with 57 cities to rank.
We used the number of murders per person as the basis for ranking. According to the most recent data, Union Gap has the highest number of murders per person. We have ranked the places in Washington with the highest number of murders per person for the tenth time. The list for 2024 has been updated.
