New Orleans Becomes the 4th Most Dangerous Neighborhood in USA

A recent study has identified Louisiana as having some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country. The website MoneyInc. recently published an article titled “The Most Dangerous Neighborhoods in America”. According to the article, the City of New Orleans is among the top five dangerous neighborhoods in the country.

The list is meant to warn people who are looking for a new home before they move. “According to MoneyInc., when people search for a new home to rent or buy, they explore the neighborhood and try to picture themselves living there.” “Parents research the schools their children will go to, the restaurants they can go to for special occasions, and the stores where they will buy groceries.” It’s important to consider all those factors, but it’s also crucial to assess the crime level in the area. A neighborhood with a lot of crime, including theft, violence, and even murder, can be dangerous for you, your family, and your belongings.

Pines Village is known as one of the toughest neighborhoods in New Orleans. The website states that the people who live there experience a lot of violence. “According to MoneyInc., the number of violent crimes is 591% higher than the national average.”

Crime in New Orleans

We have previously discussed the issues with crime in New Orleans. New Orleans is ranked as the fifth most crime-ridden city in the country according to Vivant’s list. It is ranked 13th in terms of violent crimes, 4th in terms of murder, and 2nd in terms of rape.

In 2023, a report by NBC News labeled New Orleans as the “Murder Capital” of the country. The statistics indicate that there has been some improvement in that area, but the number of murders and overall crime is still much higher than the national average.

Rafael Goyeneche from the Metropolitan Crime Commission stated that the majority of violent crimes were occurring in two specific police districts: New Orleans East and Central City. “If you can decrease crime by 50% in those two districts,” he explained, “you will be reducing violent crime by 25% in the whole city of New Orleans.”

How to Choose a Safe Neighborhood in Louisiana?

It is very important to make sure that a neighborhood is safe before deciding to move there. Here are some steps you can take to evaluate the safety of a neighborhood:

  • Use online resources that offer crime maps and statistics for your area to stay informed about crime. Websites and apps such as NeighborhoodScout or local police department websites provide information about recent criminal activity.
  • Contact your local police department to find out about crime rates, trends, and safety initiatives in your neighborhood. They can give important information about the security of the area.
  • Community Watch Programs: Find out if your neighborhood has a community watch program that is currently active. These programs show that the community cares about safety and that residents work together to stop crime.
  • Visit at Different Times: Make sure to spend time in the neighborhood at different times of the day and night. You can use this to see what the environment, street activity, and overall safety are like at different times of the day.
  • Talk to Neighbors: Go up to people who might be your neighbors and ask them about what it’s like to live in the area. Neighbors can give information about how safe the neighborhood is, what the community is like, and any worries they might have.
  • Local Schools: Look into how safe the local schools are, as this can give you an idea of how safe the neighborhood is in general. Look up the ratings of schools and have conversations with parents or teachers.
  • Public Services: Evaluate the quality of public services in the area, such as how quickly emergency services respond, how well public spaces are maintained, and how clean the neighborhood is overall.
