Search for the Suspect in the Fatal 'ambush' of a Police Officer Has Ended

A police officer in Ohio was shot and killed on Saturday night while investigating a disturbance at a home. The authorities believe that the officer was ambushed by a suspected gunman, who was later found dead on Sunday.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. in a residential area of Euclid, Ohio. Euclid is about 15 miles northeast of Cleveland. This information was provided by Capt. Mitchell Houser, a spokesperson for the Euclid Police Department.

Houser said that the police were called to a house to look into a problem. “The police were investigating when a gunman suddenly attacked an officer and shot him,” Houser said. The seriously injured officer was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead, according to Houser.

The officer who was killed has been identified as Jacob Derbin, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. During a press conference on Sunday afternoon, officials mentioned that Derbin’s father is currently working as a police officer for the Euclid police force.

“Officer Derbin joined the Euclid Police Department on July 24th, 2023,” stated a statement from the police. “While he was with the department for a short period, he showed dedication, honour, and professionalism in serving the residents, business owners, and fellow officers of Euclid.” His warm and friendly nature, along with his big smile, had a positive impact on others. The world was a better place when he was alive, and everyone who knew him will miss him very much.
