Two Dead and Two Injured, Including a Toddler, in Head-on Collision on North Carolina Highway 55

DDN – A head-on incident in Sampson County on Tuesday morning killed two individuals and injured two others, including a three-year-old.

At 7:04 a.m., State Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash on North Carolina Highway 55 (Harnett-Dunn Highway) near Oak Grove Church Road. Sky 5 flew over the area, where two cars looked to be in a head-on collision.

A black 2017 Honda Accord was driving east on N.C. 55 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a white 2013 Kia Sorento headed west on the same road.

The two cars are severely damaged, as evidenced by their fully destroyed front ends. Emergency personnel were spotted removing a body from a white automobile. The medical examiner arrived at the scene at 8:30 a.m. and was observed removing two bodies.

Eric Scott Little, 30, of Coats, was driving a Honda Accord without a seat belt on. Lauren Brittany Knuckles, 31, of Dudley, was driving the Kia Sorento and had a seat belt on.

Tragically, both drivers had died by the time emergency responders arrived.

A 3-year-old child riding in the Kia Sorento was strapped in the appropriate car seat at the time of the incident and was transported to WakeMed by helicopter.

Two helicopters were on the scene Tuesday morning; one flew off after the 3-year-old child was carried onto a stretcher, while the other remained.

Ashley Morgan Walker, 30, of Coats, was a passenger in the Honda Accord; she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries.
