Baltimore, MD – A severe winter storm is expected to hit sections of Maryland and West Virginia beginning early Wednesday morning. Heavy snow and strong gusts are predicted to produce hazardous travel conditions and potential power disruptions.
The National Weather Service predicts 4 to 8 inches of snow, with the highest accumulations in higher elevations. Wind gusts might reach 50 mph, lowering visibility to less than a quarter mile at times. The Winter Storm Warning is in place from 1 a.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
Rain will turn to snow by early Wednesday, with snowfall rates of up to an inch per hour probable. Travel may become problematic, particularly on roadways in Garrett County, Maryland, and Western Grant and Pendleton Counties, West Virginia.
