Michigan School Threat: Teen Taken Into Custody Over Gun Violence Warning

Following a group text in which sheriff’s deputies detected a threat of gun violence directed against a school, a 15-year-old girl was taken into custody on Saturday in Monroe County.

The group text involved pupils at Whiteford Agricultural Schools, and the threat was scheduled for Monday, according to a press release issued by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, school administrators were made aware of the threat by a parent of one of the pupils. After that, school administrators got in touch with the sheriff’s department.

According to the release, Sheriff’s Deputies carried out an investigation and found that the 15-year-old in Temperance was the one who had made the threat.

Following his arrest, the teenager was taken to the Monroe County Youth Center. The 15-year-old’s house was found to have a small caliber bolt-action rifle.

According to the announcement, the Monroe County Probate Court, the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, and school administrators are collaborating closely with sheriff’s officers.

As a precaution, the sheriff’s office says more personnel will be present on school property on Monday.
