Chapel of the Cross Cemetery, Madison
The Chapel of the Cross Cemetery in Madison is another cemetery that is said to be haunted in Mississippi. The most intriguing story is connected to Henry Grey Vick’s ultimate resting place.
Days before Henry was to marry Helen Johnstone, he was actually killed in a duel. It is said that Helen, who was understandably upset, attended Henry’s funeral in her bridal gown.
Numerous witnesses have reported seeing Helen’s ghost, always dressed in her wedding gown, sitting on a nearby bench or visiting Henry’s grave!
City Cemetery, Kosciusko
There is a rumored ghostly statue in City Cemetery! Her husband was devastated by Laura Kelly’s death in the late 1800s. In her honor, he made the decision to erect a statue.
He went all out and engaged a renowned sculptor to finish the job. To achieve a convincing image, the artist even went so far as to mail his wife’s clothes!
He added a third level to his house once the statue was finished so he could see it from there.
The monument may have been influenced by Mr. Kelly’s intense love for his wife and the devotion he put into creating her memorial. Because the statue of Laura Kelly has been seen crying, according to several witnesses!
Stuckey’s Bridge, Enterprise
A band of criminals known as The Dalton Gang, who were experts in robbing banks and railroads, may be familiar to you. According to folklore, one of the members, Stuckey, established an inn along the Chunky River.
To direct those crossing the river to his inn, he would stand outside with a lantern. But after everyone had fallen asleep, Stuckey would rob his visitors, kill them, and then dump their remains into the river.
Stuckey was apprehended and hanged from the bridge’s railings once his plot was discovered. That very bridge now appears to be haunted by his restless soul.
As he did on the day of his execution, he has occasionally been spotted hanging from the bridge and walking with his lantern, still looking for new victims.
The most horrifying experiences, though, are up close and personal; one witness even reported that an enraged spirit pushed them off the bridge!
King’s Tavern, Natchez
Since King’s Tavern is Natchez’s oldest surviving structure, it naturally has a fascinating past, including some ghostly activity!
A woman named Madeline is reportedly one of the ghosts that haunt King’s Tavern. One of the tavern’s initial proprietors is thought to have had a mistress named Madeline.
Although some claim that her lover’s wife killed her, no one is entirely certain of what actually happened to her. However, one of the three mummified bodies found in the cellar in the 1930s is thought to be Madeline’s.
A ghost infant crying, odd reflections in the mirrors, and unoccupied beds that feel warm to the touch as though someone had been sleeping in them are a few of the weird occurrences that have been recorded in the bar.
The Longfellow House, Pascagoula
If you ever get the chance to travel to Pascagoula, Mississippi, you will discover that the locals are often talking about the haunting of The Longfellow House!
According to local tradition, the ghost of a former slave who worked in the house is responsible for the paranormal activities.
There have been rumors that he was once nearly killed by beatings before being abandoned to perish in the woods. He is frequently heard moving about upstairs, as if his spirit has been ensnared to the home by his employers’ cruel treatment.
He is reported to be extremely irate, which is certainly natural considering how he passed away. He has pushed and smacked some of the staff members and is frequently violent.
