Method to determine the most dangerous cities in Washington
The FBI releases two crime datasets on cities in Washington every year. First, there will be a dataset that includes only the largest cities in Washington. Later in the year, a more detailed dataset will be released. We analyzed the 2022 Crime In The United States Report for Washington to gather information.
What criteria did we use? Take a look:
- Violent Crimes Per Capita
- Property Crimes Per Capita
To ensure a fair comparison, we only looked at cities in Washington with a population of over 5,000. We were left with a total of 121 cities in Washington.
We ranked each city from 1 to 121 based on two criteria. A #1 ranking indicates that the city is the most dangerous for that specific criteria. Afterwards, we combined the two rankings to create a single “Dangerous Index”.
After considering all the factors, we determined the “Dangerous Index” for each city in Washington. The city with the lowest index, Fife, is considered the most dangerous. If there were any ties, they were awarded to the smaller city.
This article is an opinion piece that presents facts in an entertaining way. This is our tenth time ranking the most dangerous places to live in Washington, and the list has been updated for 2024.
