People think that the Alan B. Polunsky Unit is the worst place to do time in Texas. It has also been called one of the most dangerous jails in the democratic world. People who have been given the death penalty live out their last days in this jail, which is called “death row.”

People who are spending their time there spend 22 hours a day in single cells, where they can’t watch TV or have visitors. A lot of inmates try to kill themselves instead of waiting for the last day of their death sentence.

Tent City Jail, Phoenix, Arizona

Tent City Jail in Phoenix, Arizona, is one of the strangest jails in the US. Sheriff Joe Arpaio opened it in 1993. He saved the state money by making a makeshift prison camp out of Army tents that were left over from the Korean War. Because this jail has so many problems, it’s easy to think that it’s a high-security prison with some of the worst criminals in the country locked up there. However, that is not the case. It mostly holds people who are waiting for their trials and nonviolent criminals with short sentences.
