Metro Detroit Sees Snowy Comeback with Lingering Chilly Weather

After a few very cold days with some sunny days across the region, winter weather is expected to return by the end of the week. Expect more clouds this evening and into the early hours of tomorrow morning. Snow will start to fall after midnight tonight and last until early Thursday morning. This will change how people get to work or school on Thursday morning. Lows overnight will stay in the middle teens, and wind chills will stay below zero for everyone until early tomorrow morning.

Thursday

The snow will last until early Thursday morning. After that, clouds will be in the forecast for the rest of the day. As we work through the first part of our Thursday, we can expect 1 to 2 inches of snow to fall. By Thursday afternoon, the high temperature will be in the middle 20s. Because of the chance of snow on Thursday, which would make it harder for people to get to work and school in the morning, we are issuing a 4Warn Weather Alert for Thursday, January 18, 2024. More bad weather is expected to hit the area that morning.

Friday

The weather report says that there will be more snow overnight Thursday and early Friday. There are still clouds over the sky, just like they were for most of Friday. Before the clouds come in for the rest of the day on Friday, it might snow an inch or so in the early morning. By Friday afternoon, the high temperature will be in the lower 20s.

Things will dry out on Friday afternoon and evening, but overnight Friday night, a stronger blast of colder air will move in to start the weekend on Saturday. Lows overnight will drop into the single digits on Friday night, and windshields will drop well below zero again. We may need more windchill warnings for Friday night and the first half of Saturday.

Weekend

On Saturday, the clouds stay put, just like they have for most of the weekend. On Sunday, a little more sun comes out. By Sunday afternoon, the high temperature will be in the lower 20s, and the warm air will really start to move in. The amount of clouds will rise overnight Sunday night and early Monday morning, but it will stay dry all day. By Monday afternoon, the high temperature will be in the lower 30s.

The prediction for next Tuesday includes a chance of rain and snow showers. However, by that Tuesday, it will be above freezing for the first time in over a week and a half. The high temperature will reach the mid-30s by Tuesday afternoon, and it will stay that way until Wednesday in the middle of next week. Will keep the chance of rain showers in the forecast, and the high temperature will be in the upper 30s.
