Methodology Behind The Whitest States In America
We used Saturday Night Science to analyze data from the US Census to determine which states in America have the highest percentage of white population. The American Community Survey from 2018-2022 has the most up-to-date information on the distribution of race by state. Table B03002 provides a detailed breakdown of data based on Hispanic/Latino ethnicity and race.
We examined the proportion of people in each state who identified as non-Hispanic/Latino and white. Next, we arranged the states in order from the highest percentage of white population to the lowest percentage of white population. This article has been revised for the year 2024. This report is our tenth edition of ranking the states in America based on their whiteness.
