Wisconsin City Becomes the Top 'peaceful Places to Live' in America

What factors contribute to a city being considered a desirable place to live?

Many lists, like this one ranking America’s “happiest cities” or this one ranking cities with the “best quality of life,” often attempt to answer that question.

A recent list compiled by Yahoo! Finance and further developed by the online travel guide TheTravel aimed to identify the “Most Peaceful Places to Live in the U.S.” Green Bay, the third-largest city in Wisconsin, ranked third.

The rankings were determined by two main factors: the absence of noise and the presence of abundant green spaces. TheTravel mentioned a study by the Centre for Disease Control that found constant exposure to noise can lead to chronic hearing loss, lack of sleep, reduced productivity, and stress-related illness.

The rankings from Yahoo! Finance, which TheTravel’s report was based on, mentioned a study published in the journal “Scientific Advances.” The study found that people who have easier access to green spaces nearby have better heart health and tend to be biologically younger by 2.5 years compared to those who don’t have the same access. Additionally, a report in August by “Harvard Medicine” magazine stated that doctors are recommending spending time outdoors to enhance mental health.

Green Bay is considered one of the most peaceful places to live according to TheTravel.

What Makes Green Bay a Peaceful Place to Live?

The city, which is home to the Packers, ranked third on TheTravel’s list of the most peaceful places to live. This is because three-quarters of the residents have public outdoor green spaces within a short walking distance from their homes.

“According to Jill Robbins from TheTravel, there are many places in Green Bay where you can enjoy the outdoors. One of these places is the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, which is free to visit.” “This city sanctuary is great for easy walks during the spring, summer and autumn, and for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter.” There are more than five miles of trails to discover.

Green Bay has many parks, areas for boating and watersports, and walking and ski trails. One of the popular trails is the 25-mile Fox River State Trail.

TheTravel also mentioned the Titletown District, which is a recreational area in the city that combines indoor and outdoor activities. The all-season park is very popular, especially on Packer gamedays. On these days, it hosts pre-game festivities that include live music and food. Titletown has a playground, a full-size public football pitch, outdoor games, a sledding hill, an ice skating rink and other attractions. The venue regularly holds wellness events such as sports leagues, yoga, and meditation classes.

Green Bay has plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. It also has one of the lowest crime rates (21.81 incidents per 1,000 residents) and one of the quietest environments (39.47 dBA) compared to the other cities on TheTravel’s list.
