Plastic Surgeon Warns of ‘Ozempic Face’ Crisis Sweeping Hollywood

There is a new trend in Hollywood that focuses on the negative aspects of weight loss treatments.

Celebrities who use a popular injectable medication for Type 2 diabetes are experiencing a side effect known as “Ozempic Face.”

People who take the drug semaglutide, also known as Ozempic, often have saggy skin, thin cheeks, and sunken eyes.

“Ozempic face has similar characteristics to what we see when patients experience rapid or regular weight loss,” said Dr. Smita Ramanadham, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, in an interview with the Daily Mail.

“When we lose fat in the face, we notice that the cheeks become more sunken, the skin starts to sag, and the overall appearance of the face becomes more hollow.”

Semaglutide is a medication that helps the pancreas release enough insulin when blood sugar levels are high. It is prescribed to people with diabetes.

According to Medical News Today, it also helps people feel fuller and slows down the process of food leaving the stomach, which means they can eat less calories.

The medication’s ability to burn fat quickly became very popular among the wealthy people in Los Angeles. This led to speculation about which of them have started using it.

A group of surgeons recently reviewed pictures of 15 celebrities who have lost a significant amount of weight in the last few months.

They determined that at least half of the people may currently be experiencing a condition called “Ozempic face”.

When we look at actor John Goodman, who is 71 years old, we can see that he has lost almost 200 pounds (90.7kg) since 2007. Ramanadham, speaking to the Daily Mail, explained that as he loses weight, we can notice more lines, wrinkles, and a decrease in fullness in his face compared to when he was heavier.

“These changes are common when losing weight, regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”

Goodman has said that he did not take Ozempic. Instead, he attributes his transformation to dieting, exercise, and giving up alcohol.

Robbie Williams, Sharon Osborne, Jessica Simpson, and Scott Disick were also mentioned in the list. The experts said that Osborne had the most extreme case of the emaciated face condition, describing it as “dramatic.”

“Her eyes appear more sunken in, and her cheeks have more hollowing,” Ramanadham observed.

“There is a noticeable decrease in the amount of fat in the face, which leads to more wrinkles.”

The Daily Mail reported that Ozempic can cause facial reactions as one of its many side effects. In the last three months of 2022, there were 9 million prescriptions written for this drug.

Some possible complications of this condition are feeling sick, having trouble going to the bathroom, feeling tired, and having pain in the stomach. In rare cases, people have also experienced issues with their vision, problems with their gallbladder, and a higher chance of getting thyroid cancer.

This evidence shows that there is no such thing as a “magic drug” for weight loss. It is important to approach weight loss in a controlled and cautious manner.
