Study Reveals 2 California Cities among Top 10 Most Liveable in US

In 2023, a recent study has analyzed the top cities in the United States for working, learning, and leisure activities as people gradually return to their pre-pandemic routines. Despite the ongoing trend of remote work, individuals are seeking opportunities to enjoy themselves and engage in social and recreational activities.

A data analysis company called Niche has recently released a comprehensive report on the best cities in the U.S. The report takes into consideration various factors such as the cost of living, safety, school quality, nightlife, walkability, outdoor activities, and more. Niche utilized Census data, surveys, and other reliable sources of information to conduct their analysis.

In the latest rankings, Berkeley and Irvine have made significant progress, securing the 6th and 7th spots among California cities. Impressively, they have climbed up from their previous positions of 8th and 10th, showcasing their upward trajectory. Several cities in California, including Sunnyvale, San Francisco, and Santa Clara, have made it into the top 20. These cities are all located in the bay area.

Cambridge, Massachusetts takes the top spot with a population of approximately 117,000. The city, known for being home to Harvard, provides residents with an urban atmosphere. It boasts a wide array of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. According to Niche, the public schools are highly regarded.

Arlington, Virginia has moved up to second place, climbing from fourth in 2022. Arlington experienced a decline in housing affordability, with a median home value of $755,800. However, it excelled in other areas, receiving top marks for its public schools, family-friendly environment, and vibrant nightlife.

The Woodlands, located in the Houston area of Texas, claimed the number one position. However, in 2023, it slipped down to third place. The Woodlands is a popular residential area where the majority of people own their houses. The community is known for its dense suburban atmosphere and offers a wide range of amenities such as restaurants and parks. A resident commented in the study’s findings, expressing their contentment with the abundance of greenery in the town. They mentioned that despite the lush surroundings, they have no difficulty navigating the well-organized town.

Naperville, Illinois ranks fourth and has a population of approximately 150,000 residents. According to Niche, the schools in the city are highly regarded and it is considered to be a family-friendly place. However, the nightlife in this Chicago suburb was given a “B+” rating, while the crime and safety received a “B-” rating.

In the rankings for 2023, Columbia, Maryland has secured the fifth spot. According to Niche, the city has a population of approximately 105,000 residents. It is known for being home to many families and young professionals. Additionally, the public schools in the area are highly regarded.

In February, there was a slight decrease in the median sales price of houses in the United States compared to the previous year, offering a ray of hope for those looking to purchase a home in 2023. The National Association of Realtors reported that the median sales price dropped by 0.2% to $363,000.

“Home buyers are capitalizing on any declines in mortgage rates,” stated NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun. Furthermore, there is a notable increase in sales in regions where housing prices are declining and the local economies are experiencing job growth.
